John is a well-known speaker and writer on risk, regulatory and governance issues, particularly business and operational risk. Mastering Operational Risk, which he co-authored with Tony Blunden, was published by Financial Times Prentice Hall in August 2010.
He has worked in financial services in the City for over 30 years and for the last 15 has been on the boards of a number of banking and insurance firms as both an executive and non-executive director.
He has been chairman of the UK Financial Services and Insurance Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce and has sat on advisory groups on risk and operational risk for the Bank of England, Financial Services Authority, Financial Services Skills Council, Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and Lloyd's Market Association.
He graduated from the University of Oxford and is a Fellow of the Institute of Operational Risk and of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
Chris has been involved in risk management in one form or another since leaving the Royal Navy in 1981. He has spent considerable time in the Far East, and seen at first hand a wide variety of cultural approaches to risk. As a loss adjuster he has seen the impact of poor risk management. As a captive manager, he has worked with companies which backed good risk management with their balance sheet.
Currently he is currently the; Deputy Chairman of the Institute of Risk Management; Risk Executive providing risk financing/captive consultancy services to Heritage Insurance Management, and interim head of ORIC, the ABI's international Operational Risk Consortium, which collects, standardizes and reports Operational Risk loss data for the insurance and asset management industry.
Usifu Jalloh is an energetic, funny and deeply inspiring storytelling performer. He was born in Sierra Leone. With a mix of drumming, singing and a captivating narrative style Usifu takes an audience through the emotional magic of childhood imagination. He uses contemporary elements that have influenced his life from his African roots to Indian Bollywood.
